In partnership with the prestigious University of Manchester, INTO Manchester offers high quality preparation for international students wanting to study at one of the world's top universities. Through INTO Manchester's pathway programmes, students can progress to a wide range of top ranked undergraduate degrees at The University of Manchester.

The main programme is the International Foundation which has five specialist pathways:

  • Biosciences
  • Engineering and Science
  • Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Pharmacy
  • Psychology

Through the course, students develop their academic and English language skills so they can enter directly onto the first year of an undergraduate degree at The University of Manchester.

There are also Academic English language courses available for students looking to improve their English for further academic study.

The average tuition fees for undergraduate INTO students for three-term pathways in 2020–21 is GBP 18,635. Accommodation costs for three-term pathways in 2020–21 range from GBP 5,775 to GBP 10,200.

The University of Manchester is ranked as one of the best in the world

In the latest Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), The University of Manchester has placed 33rd out of all universities across the globe, and 6th in the UK. The ranking analyses over 1,200 institutions.

This is the highest position the university has ever achieved in the ARWU. It adds to Manchester's list of recent successes, including its highest ever place in the most recent QS World University Rankings.

Part of a global network promoting SDGs

The university is a member of a new global network that is promoting the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Manchester ranks as having one of the best social and environmental impacts across the globe (first in Europe and third in the world – Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings), and this new network is designed to boost contributions from higher education institutions.

Teaching quality

Teaching quality

At INTO Manchester, international students will benefit from the dedicated teachers who strive for the success of each of their students. Classes are small, interactive and supported by a variety of learning materials as well as progress reports. All English language courses are British Council accredited, and all academic programmes are NCUK accredited.

Students experience a variety of teaching methods, such as traditional lectures and enquiry-based teaching. Classes are interactive to encourage participation with e-learning materials available to complement studies.

Personal Tutors

New international students are assigned a Personal Tutor who they will meet up with throughout the year. Personal Tutors help international students settle into student life, guide them academically, are available to provide assistance and can help refer them to the appropriate support services they need.

Language support

There are language advisors at the INTO Centre who help international students with communicating in English.

Those who progress onto an undergraduate programme at The University of Manchester can be assured they'll be taught by passionate staff who are internationally renowned in their subject areas.

Student support

INTO Student Services

All INTO Manchester students can take advantage of the wide variety of support available. The Student Services support team is friendly and helpful and their offering includes an orientation programme, language support and guidance for settling into the city. When students arrive in the UK, they can receive visa support through personal guidance and workshops.

Staff do more than just help out, they also organise a variety of social activities so students can meet new people and have fun in their new home.

University Link Tutor

INTO students looking to progress to The University of Manchester are assigned a personal University Link Tutor. Tutors meet with students regularly to track progress and answer any questions they have, as well as organising campus events that are relevant to the students' interests.

Living in Manchester

Manchester is a big city so students are advised to take reasonable precautions, however the university and INTO Centre looks after the safety of students. There is a 24/7 emergency phone number students can use, and all halls of residence provide 24/7 support, CCTV surveillance and secure door entry systems.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

To be eligible to study at INTO Manchester, international students will need to meet a small number of academic and English language requirements. The following are key criteria for students aiming to undertake an INTO course:

International Foundation

  • Academic requirements – students will need to have completed 12 years of school (or equivalent) and have finished with good grades that reflect the requisite academic ability.
  • English language requirements – depending on the course, students will need a minimum IELTS score of 5.0–6.0, or equivalent.

English Language Courses: Academic English

  • English language requirements – students will need a minimum IELTS score of 3.0, or equivalent.

This is not a definitive list, and students are recommended to verify the entry requirements for their chosen course.

INTO Manchester Study Centre

All INTO students can take advantage of the INTO Manchester Study Centre, which is located in central Manchester. The facilities have been tailored to international students, allowing them to productively study and socialise in one large space.

Features of the Study Centre include:

  • Modern teaching rooms with digital whiteboards
  • Computer suites
  • High-speed Wi-Fi throughout
  • Break out areas for studying or relaxing
  • Friendly Student Services team
  • Virtual learning environment

There is also the Learning Resource Centre, which has more than 5,000 materials and facilities to support studies, such as books, journals, magazines, printers and scanners.


INTO students can choose to live either within the lively student community in the campus halls of residence, or they can live with a carefully selected host in a local area.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

To reward high achieving, gifted and driven international students, INTO Manchester has a number of scholarships in place. Awards are designed to help students reach their academic and professional goals. The following awards are available for the 2020–21 academic year.

Regional Scholarship

INTO students who are starting an International Foundation pathway and can demonstrate academic excellence may be eligible for a scholarship of GBP 4,000.
