In recent years, the University of York has invested heavily in its infrastructure and new teaching facilities, to ensure that the resources available to its students remain cutting-edge in this modern university learning environment. Recent developments on campus include:

New accommodation

There will be 1,400 new student bedrooms on campus, and more flexible social spaces when two new colleges are formed. In addition, there are upgrades being undertaken to a number of colleges including updating kitchens and bathrooms.

York Management School

As the Management School expands, it is being moved to a larger facility. There will be more teaching and learning spaces, flexible working spaces and outdoor social areas.

New chemistry research building

The Dorothy Hodgkin Building has doubled in size with a new laboratory space built to house 100 researchers.

Institute for Safe Autonomy

The University is developing a new centre to place York at the forefront of research into the safe operation of robotics and autonomous systems.

The University of York is renowned for delivering an excellent standard of teaching. In recent years it has performed extremely well in national assessment surveys, and has received particular praise for the consistency of teaching across all departments. The faculty works very hard to maintain this quality of tuition and is always seeking new ways to improve. The University was awarded 16^th place in the Europe Teaching Rankings (Times Higher Education Europe Teaching Rankings 2019) and ranked 151^st in the QS World University Rankings for 2022.

It also has an outstanding reputation for research and the expertise of its faculty in this regard. Students will study and learn with active researchers, conducting work on some of the most exciting and cutting-edge issues in current times. This feeds directly into the teaching and course content, and students benefit from their tutors' academic insights and professional expertise. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (2014), the University was ranked 10^th for the impact of their research and 14^th overall in the UK.

Library

The main campus library is the JB Morrell library, which holds more than one million print books, as well as both printed and digital journals. The library is open 24 hours a day, 362 days of the year.

Accommodation

Centred around ten colleges, accommodation includes a variety of room types and options to suit different budgets. Each college offers a welcoming and supportive community with opportunities for students to meet new people.

Sports Facilities

The University recently opened its new GBP 9 million sports centre, York Sports Village, a state-of-the-art facility which includes a fully-equipped fitness suite with sauna and steam rooms, a full-size 3G Astroturf pitch and a 25-metre swimming pool.

Shopping and Eating on Campus

The campus is full of interesting places for shopping, eating and drinking. There are three supermarkets on site where students can get groceries and university merchandise. There are also cafes in the library, sports centre, and in various departments and colleges. Further details about food and drink on campus are on the university website.

Be Exceptional scholarships

The Be Exceptional scholarships offer support to international students to help them achieve their goals at the University of York. They are available to undergraduate and postgraduate taught students starting in 2022 during their first year of study. Vice-Chancellor's scholarships

By applying to the Be Exceptional scholarships, you will also automatically be considered for the prestigious Vice-Chancellor's scholarships. These scholarships offer a tuition fee discount for high-achieving undergraduate and postgraduate taught students starting in 2022.

Equal Access Scholarships

This scholarship awards a total fee waiver, meaning no tuition fees, plus a maintenance award towards living costs. It is awarded to applicants who are seeking refuge in the UK and wanting to pursue an undergraduate degree programme, starting in 2022. Student Hub

The best place to go for support and advice is the Student Hub on campus. Here, specialist advisers can provide advice and information to help students manage their wellbeing as well as offer guidance and information on practical matters.

Academic Supervisors

Each student will have an academic supervisor who they can contact about anything they might need to succeed academically. They advise students on their academic progress and can help with personal development.

International Student Support

There is specific support available to international students, from immigration advice to assistance with settling into life at York. Students can join the International Students' Association to make friends from overseas, or join any of the over 200 societies on campus. The International Student Support Team can also offer support with practical matters such as access to healthcare and accommodation for visiting family members.

Open Door

Open Door are a team of professionals who are able to offer psychological and mental health support to all registered students. It is a completely confidential service and available by appointment.

Students' Union

The University of York Students' Union, better known as YUSU, helps students to make the most of their time at university. They represent student views and play a huge part in the vibrant student experience at York both on and off campus.

YUSU is run for, with, and by students. They help students to share ideas, create change, gain new skills and access support.

The University of York has an excellent reputation for graduate outcomes. It is among the top 20 universities which are targeted by the greatest number of leading employers (The Graduate Market in 2019, High Fliers).

York Futures, the employability programme run by the University, helps students to understand their options, reflect on their experiences and make plans for securing their desired graduate outcomes. Students can also benefit from resources such as CV help, networking and careers events.
