Red River College

RRC is a progressive and forward-thinking institution, with a strong emphasis on applied research and innovation. The college ranks among the top ten research institutions in Canada, and collaborates with several small and medium-sized businesses by sharing its research and technological expertise in sectors such as aerospace, advanced manufacturing, culinary arts, green energy and vehicle technology. These initiatives encourage students to engage with industry experts in their fields, and receive work experience and training that prepares them for their life after graduation. Recent key projects include:

• Red River College's new Innovation Centre will be a hub for innovation and collaboration, focusing on applied research, entrepreneurship and social innovation.
• RRC awarded CAD 300,000 in research grants to continue to expand its efforts in applied research and learning.
• RRC's new Smart Factory and Centre for Aerospace Technology and Training, supported through a CAD 10 million investment by Western Economic Diversification Canada.
• New Motive Lab, a climatic chamber with an integrated chassis dynamometer facility for testing buses and other highway vehicles.
• Culinary research and innovation will expand and develop new products such as hemp macaroons and a miso paste made from beer-brewing by-products.
• Science of early child development resource trains early childhood educators across Canada and around the world, in partnership with the World Bank and Aga Khan University.

Admission to RRC is offered to students based on academic merit and language competency. Both must be demonstrated as part of the application process. Since the college does not have an application deadline, students are accepted based on the level of qualification and on a first-come-first-serve basis. It is recommended that students apply at least six months before the start of the desired academic program.

Academic requirements

• Post-secondary programs require the equivalent of a Grade 12 education in Manitoba. Additional requirements may be needed depending on the program.
• Postgraduate programs require a post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Language requirements

• English language requirements vary from program to program. Students must meet the minimum score of an accepted language proficiency test (TOEFL, IELTS Academic or Duolingo)
• If language proficiency standards are not met, the college offers an intensive English for International Students program, which is designed to improve English speaking proficiency to the required level for an academic program. The intensive English program is generally a four-month-long course. However, the course and its duration are unique for each applicant.

Additional admission requirements

• Some programs require additional admission requirements, including those in creative arts, health sciences and more.
• Applicants must also submit required personal information, including passports, immigration documents and health insurance.
  

Average tuition fees at RRC are around CAD 14,000 to CAD 16,000 for most programs. While the college makes an effort to keep these fees accessible, it is understood that the cost of moving to a new city and undertaking a course of study can be significant. Therefore, a wide range of financial support options are available to international students who are pursuing undergraduate or post-graduate programs at RRC.

Last year, Red River College administered awards, bursaries, and scholarships totalling more than CAD 2.9 million to help students achieve their academic goals. These awards are intended to support students who have shown outstanding abilities in academic or vocational areas and those who need financial assistance.

There are several national scholarships offered by the Canadian government and other international organizations. Students can get advice and assistance in applying for these through the college's International Student Support area.

RRC is committed to providing students with free and confidential counselling support for the transition to living abroad, and to inspire confidence in their decision to study in Canada. The college has established a dedicated student support service, to ensure its students' success in meeting both their academic and personal goals. Services include:

• Financial support services - assistance emergency funding, insurance, budgeting and personal finances.
• Immigration support – assistance with in-Canada study permit extension, co-op work permit applications, postgraduate work permit application. Information session on Manitoba's Provincial Nominee Program as well as Federal immigration programs.
• Academic services – peer tutoring, intercultural mentorship, academic support and general advice are available to ease the transition to living and studying away from home.
• Medical Centre – there is an on-campus clinic, available during term times, and regular health and safety updates online.
• Language support - Additional language tuition is available throughout the academic year.
• Health and well-being – Through the Healthy Minds Healthy College Initiative, Red River College is a supportive and healthy place to learn. The college understands the range of social, psychological and personal needs of the international learner.

RRC's Centre for International Education and Global Partnership provides a full range of services to support their international students, from the moment of application to their graduation. The college maintains a diverse and inclusive learning environment for all its staff and students.

The RRC campus offers everything its students require for personal and academic success, within easy walking distance. The college facilities include various computer rooms, modern study spaces, rec rooms, lounge, gym, basketball court, libraries, and student bookstore to meet students' academic needs.

There are several food courts at all RRC campuses, and an active Students' Association, which acts primarily as an advocate for student support and organizes a lively timetable of social events throughout the year.

Accommodation options are plentiful, and RRC's student residences offer a high standard of living, with a range of options to suit all budgets and preferences. Student accommodation is located inside the new Paterson Global Foods Institute at the Exchange District Campus. It provides furnished dormitories, meal plans for delicious food, all in a prime location within the city while ensuring student safety. The residences are the perfect home away from home and keep students connected to one of Winnipeg's most vibrant neighbourhoods, while also being a short walk away from college.

RRC has many other amenities on campus, such as a state-of-the-art fitness centre available to all students, on-site parking for those with vehicles, and even child care, available to support students with young families of their own.

RRC has eight campuses throughout Manitoba, including several located in rural communities. There are three campuses based in Winnipeg:

• Notre Dame Campus - RRC's largest campus is home to most of the college's skilled trades, transportation technology, health sciences and engineering programs. It also features a variety of services, facilities and amenities.
• Exchange District Campus - Nestled within downtown Winnipeg, this campus is home to RRC's creative arts, IT, culinary arts and hospitality programs, and two student-run dining options, Jane's and the Culinary Exchange.
• Stevenson Campus - Manitoba is home to the third-largest aerospace sector in Canada. Hands-on tuition overhauling aircraft engines, maintaining aircraft, building components, or in management positions such as directors of maintenance and quality assurance.

Other Centers include:

• ACE Project Space: The ACE Project Space is an interactive workspace where students, entrepreneurs, non-profit organizations and corporations collaborate to bring unique ideas to life. With the guidance of experienced staff and faculty, students of the business information technology, business technology management and information security programs work with industry clients to create prototypes, products, and services introduced to the market.
• Adult Learning Centres: Red River College's Adult Learning Centres offer high school courses in various subject areas. Whether students want to complete their high school education, upgrade their skills or enter college or university.
• Language Training Centre: The Language Training Centre has innovative and accessible programs, including Intensive English, English for specific purposes, and academic language preparation. The Language Training Centre enrolls approximately 1,000 students in English language programs every year.
